At Bartley, we have created a curriculum which is bespoke to our children and encourages them to become enthusiastic and engaged with English. We develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding of grammar and text construction through an ever evolving English curriculum, whilst providing them with vibrant yet carefully selected texts to showcase the best that writing can be.
Our approach to teaching spelling ensures that the quirks and intricacies of words in the English language are explicitly taught whilst making links to the phonics that our children have learnt at their infant school.
At Bartley we are committed to providing rich and varied opportunities for children to become literate pupils. Through our English Curriculum, we strive to teach the children how important their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills will be in the real world. By giving this context to their learning, the children understand the value of English to them now, and in their futures.
