GEOGRAPHY
‘My geography teacher at school inspired me to a lifelong interest in geography and a curiosity about the world which has stayed with me for life. Geography is a living, breathing subject, constantly adapting itself to change. It is dynamic and relevant. For me geography is a great adventure with purpose’ Michael Palin
INTENT
Our intent for the Geography curriculum at Bartley is that it will inspire our children with a curiosity, fascination and appreciation of the world around them.
It will equip children with geographical skills to develop a diverse understanding of people and places across the world and knowledge of human and physical geography.
Our curriculum incorporates the local area which is of rich geographical significance, giving children opportunities to explore and investigate, both within the classroom and outside it through fieldwork and inquiry.
We will provide our children with the subject-specific language they need to describe, question and discuss the world.
We aim to foster independent learning and pupil voice by encouraging children to discover answers to their own questions through exploration and research to enable them to gain a greater understanding and knowledge of the world and their place in it.
IMPLEMENTATION
Geography is taught in three half term blocks within a year, across Years 3 to 6. The lessons are taught weekly within the half term that they sit. The curriculum develops key skills from the National Curriculum and incorporates ideas from the Chris Quigley scheme of work.
