PSHE
INTENT
“To embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life, pupils need knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy”
(Department for Education, 2019)
Our intent at Bartley is that our PSHE Curriculum promotes pupils’ self-esteem, emotional development and resourcefulness and helps children to form and maintain satisfying relationships. This begins a lifelong process of relationships and feelings, acquiring information, developing skills and forming positive beliefs and attitudes. Our children learn to respect themselves and others and move with confidence from childhood, through adolescence and into adulthood. We are proud of our PSHE Programme and see it as an important way of helping children to make sense of growing up as well as some of the bigger questions in life.
IMPLEMENTATION
PSHE is taught in discrete weekly sessions from Year 3 to Year 6. The majority of our PSHE coverage uses SCARF (Coram Education). We also incorporate elements of the PSHE Curriculum through Collective Worship and various whole school events.
